Netflix Livestream Crashes During Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Fight, Frustrating Thousands

Tens of thousands of Netflix users across the United States reported issues streaming the highly anticipated Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match on Friday night. As the livestream for the main event began at 10 p.m. ET, complaints surged, with many saying the stream failed to load.

The hashtag #NetflixCrash quickly trended on X (formerly Twitter) as viewers expressed their frustration. Downdetector, a service that tracks internet outages, reported over 500,000 disruptions tied to Netflix. The outage appeared to impact users nationwide, according to Downdetector's data.

Netflix has yet to comment on the situation, leaving the exact cause of the problem unclear.

The boxing event, “Paul vs. Tyson,” was scheduled to stream globally for approximately four and a half hours. The platform, boasting 283 million subscribers across 190 countries, was expected to handle the influx of viewers.

“We crashed the site,” Jake Paul said in a post-fight interview after defeating Tyson, though no official confirmation has been made regarding the cause of the outage.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, among the frustrated viewers, voiced his dissatisfaction on X: “I can’t tell if my internet keeps going out or whether #Netflix is just constantly buffering and unwatchable for everybody.”

The technical issues began just as excitement peaked for the eight-round heavyweight bout, leading to widespread disappointment among fans eager to witness the high-profile clash.
